Peel opens archives on the Mac. Double-click browses the contents like a folder, and Finder Services (Peel, Peel to…, Peel & Reveal) extract them. It handles ZIP and ZIP-based packages, TAR and its compressed variants, gzip, bzip2, xz and zstd streams, RAR including multipart sets, and 7z.
One Rust engine, peel-core, sits under everything: a CLI, a C ABI, an XPC service and a Quick Look extension all call it. Passwords travel through an environment variable, never the command line. When macOS refuses the file system extension, Peel falls back to a browse cache next to the archive, and the docs treat that cache as the supported path rather than a stopgap.
Status Version 0.3.2 shipped on October 14, 2026 as a notarized DMG and ZIP on a private GitHub release; create/compress and a live Finder mount are not shipped.
